Everywhere we look, the beauty of nature surrounds us. The sky, the mountains, the rivers, the hills. Especially here in the Owens Valley. It is called “God’s Country” for a reason. When you stop and look closer…like really bend down to the ground and look closer…you may be surprised at what you find! As a little girl, I always had rocks in my pockets. I couldn’t help it! I was constantly watching the ground and picking up any rock that caught my eye. When my daughter started doing the same thing she would grab so many rocks that she started...
Spring has always been my favorite time to go rock hounding. The air is starting to warm up, but it's still cool enough to be out during the afternoon. The cloud coverage can be quite beautiful and the flowers are starting to bloom. Lizards can be found basking in the sun and the birds serenade you. Winter winds and rains will have uncovered new treasures to be discovered. It is the perfect opportunity to grab a rockhounding guide and explore the desert!
Spring is upon us. It is a great time to shake off the winter cold and get out to rock hound! We have had allot of rain that should have stirred up some new mineral finds in those old favorite places! As always, be aware of your footing and your surroundings.
