Everywhere we look, the beauty of nature surrounds us. The sky, the mountains, the rivers, the hills. Especially here in the Owens Valley. It is called “God’s Country” for a reason. When you stop and look closer…like really bend down to the ground and look closer…you may be surprised at what you find!
As a little girl, I always had rocks in my pockets. I couldn’t help it! I was constantly watching the ground and picking up any rock that caught my eye. When my daughter started doing the same thing she would grab so many rocks that she started filling up my pockets as well! I had to teach her “Only pick up what you can carry.” This is super hard for a natural born rockhound.
The first time I went rockhounding with my Dad, I was extra hooked. It was no longer random rocks I was picking up! We had a destination and a certain mineral we were looking for. When I found the first one, I was ecstatic! It was amazing to find these beautiful stones that had taken millions of years to form!
If you have never been rock hounding, I encourage you to pick up a book and head out to the hills. The moment you find what you went searching for you will be filled with awe and wonder.
